Can anyone explain the concept of match play in golf?
I got so frustrated watching the Solheim Cup because I could not understand the concept of match play. If someone can explain it to me using the round 1 scoring of the four-ball and foursome matches from the LPGA website that I already copied then I will vote you for best answer. I would really like to know so I can watch the President's Cup and not get frustrated, lol.

Match Play essentially treats the golf course as 18 individual holes. Instead of counting individual strokes for an overall score, individual strokes only matter for each hole. For example, if I get a 4 on hole 1, and you get a 3, you win the whole and go up +1. If I get a lower score on the next whole, the "match" goes back to even. This process goes on until somebody goes up enough where the other person has no chance at winning (being +3 with 2 holes left).
Match play is better for higher handicappers, or those who want to have 2 or 4 person teams. Scores only matter for each particular hole, not the entire score.

The object is to win holes. To win a hole, you need to have a lower score than the other team. If you both have the same score, you tie the hole and you move on to the next hole. If you are leading by more holes than there are holes left, the match is declared over.

whoever wins the hole your up 1 on the other and the other is down one
say you guys play a hole and you win then your up 1 on him until he wins a hole in which you would be back to even
when you win more holes than are needed to win say you are 4 up on start of 15 it is a doorme so you can only tie and if you win that hole you win
so basicly if you have a put for bogey and your opponent already pared then you can just pick up because they will win the hole for sure
only 1 point can be own each hole so if you blow up on one hole it wont hurt you that bad

whovere hits the least amouunt of shots on each hole wins the hole and which ever team wins the most holes wins the game
