Are the White Sox a chanpionship-caliber team?

Not this year but maybe in 2010. They play in arguably the weakest division in the Majors and have one of the best top 3 starters you can have (Peavy, Mr. Perfect and Danks). They have hitting with Thome, Dye, Konerko, and are ready to invest in a franchise player, like Gordan Beckham or the pitcher from Cuba. What do you guys think...

Update:

sorry- i spelled championship wrong, i was in a hurry...

Update 2:

Yes- my Cuban pitcher is Chapman, not Jose Contreas. I was thinking if they landed him as a free agent, they'd have the best rotation in the Central

Update 3:

I'm also sorry I didn't mention Alex Rios, I blanked out.

Well, if they win the AL Central this year, I would even consider them a championship caliber team.

But your questin is about 2010, and I agree. Next year, this starting rotation will be scary. Take a look:

    1. Mark Buehrle

    2. Jake Peavy

    3. John Danks

    4. Gavin Floyd

    5. Contreras/Garcia/Marquez/Torres

3 out of those 5 have an ERA under 4.00, and that's not including Jake Peavy. And if Peavy is himself, this will be scary. The fifth spot is questionable, but the rest is lights out.

And for hitting.....they struggle. Thome and Dye may or may not be back next year, no one can tell. But they have Beckham who is a pleasant surprise. They are definitely trying to lock him up long term at third base. Then, there is the Cuban Missile at shortstop, Getz at second, and Konerko at first.

The outfield would be Quentin, Rios, and Podsednik (maybe). That's a good outfield. Pods is hitting .293 this season and is a good leadoff hitter. Rios should provide some power to this lineup.

And of course, don't forget A.J. Pierzynski, the most valuable player to this team. Yes, he's controversial, but a great teammate in Chicago, and he keeps the clubhouse loose. And don't forget, he's hitting .313 this year.

And that guy from Cuba.....if you're talking about Chapman, he won't come to Chicago, too expensive.

But I think this team will contend next year, and maybe 2011, with many of the players going to return for that season.

    --------------------------

I don't think they will get Chapman, considering they are paying a fortune for Peavy and Rios.

This grow to be an excellent 3 hundred and sixty 5 days for the White Sox. finding back on it as a spectator i think like i grow to hitch it for some reason. I listened to or watched very almost each interest. there grow to be particularly some united statesand downs that ended up making this memorable. this is humorous purely over each week in the past i grow to be in a bar speaking with my pal, who's a die-annoying Cubs fan, and how it would be super if the Sox ought to easily comeback and clinch the branch (this grow to be interest a million of the Indians sequence). He suggested it would actual make background...and you recognize what by the Kansas city Royals the White Sox did finally end up making baseball background. in no way has a team confronted 3 distinctive combatants to end their season. additionally, no different team has ever had 2 gamers with 500 or extra homeruns enjoying on an identical time. I submit to in concepts whilst Griffey Jr. first got here to the team and he batted in Thome, in no way till now. even though they lost interior the playoffs, for me the authentic win grow to be the branch against the Twins. I knew the White Sox does not be good adequate this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days to bypass very far interior the playoffs, yet after seeing the team in 1st place for lots of the season i did no longer desire them to lose all of it interior the previous few weeks of the common season. i think of ways forward for this team would be incredibly good in the event that they might discover some take carry of hitters for next season. we've adequate domicile run hitters. Our base center for next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days would be with Alexi Ramirez, Carlos Quintin, John Danks and Gavin Floyd. of direction we will have A.J., Buerhle and Konerko. maximum possibly Swisher, Dye and Uribe (has a great backup guy). Sorry human beings, yet there has been hypothesis all 3 hundred and sixty 5 days that Crede does not be back in '09. Who knows how the team would be remodeled, yet i desire for positives. i'm even finding forward to the top of the season whilst Contreras could be waiting to comeback and connect the bullpen interior the prolonged roster for September. i desire to work out him do properly.

hopefully your cuban pitcher refers to Chapman, not Jose Contreras...

Anyways, the sox wont have Thome next year, but with the abundance of outfielders, we should have no problem filling in a DH spot. The pitching is excelent, we just need decent 4th and 5th guys to complete it, and Gavin Floyd can easily fit that description. And the younger (and cheaper!) kids filling in spots works well too.

I'm not sure if this year can be counted out yet, but if so, next year looks to be a very good year.

Is anyone in the AL Central a champion team? Oh yes, someone will be the champion of that division. It doesn't matter to me who, as long as it isn't Cleveland, Royals, White Sox or Twins.

The Motor City Kitties are going to keep winning this division. The pitching of the white sox, and their offense, are going to need to improve greatly before they thik about playoffs.

White Sox players are getting old. They need to sign some younger players if they're going to have a future.

  • 1 decade ago

Could be. It was long, long ago. . .some say as long ago as 2005, when they won it all. Under rated club.

  • 1 decade ago

Please, dont make me laugh. They are so over rated, that even Washington sometimes looks better.

They have respectable pitching, but could use a couple more quality arms as well as offensive bats. They are steps away form catching another title, and Ozzie needs to go go go.

just my opinion but no they are not. look at their percentage
