What the difference between API Pimafix and Melafix?

I was looking at the medicines Pimafix and Melafix, and Melafix treats bacterial infections such as fin rot and pop eye, but Pimafix treats fungal problems like cottony growth and reddness of fins, as well as internal and external bacterial infections, though it doesn't say which ones.

Which is better?

Update:

Can you use both of these together?

And the Pimafix directions say to remove activated carbon filter if possible. Why is this?

    Melafix is anti-bacterial,antiseptic ...

Pimafix is anti-fungal and acts on some molds too.

They can be used together, singly,or in conjunction with salt treatments.

When used with salt treatments they enhance each others effects.

Carbon absorbs foreign compounds in water (the only purpose for it being there) ..... so it greatly reduces the effectiveness of any medication (organic or synthetic compounds). With some meds you shouldn't even bother if carbon is present.

Also, carbon is used after treatment to remove meds .... it should then be removed and thrown away.Carbon leaches back what it has absorbed after "saturation point" (anytime, not just with meds),so should always be replaced every 4 weeks anyway .... or not used at all as it masks water quality readings during testing. It is totally personal preference if you want to use or not.

Source(s): No meds in the house except salt ... and a bottle of Melafix (still unopened).

Both medications can be used together, however the treatment required will depend on the disease that you are attempting to treat.

Obviously API Melafix would be more or less useless for treating the majority of fungal infections, unless they are a secondary problem to something along the lines of a bacterial infection such as Columnaris.

Activated carbon must be removed from the filter before the treatment is added, as the carbon will easily remove the chemicals, rendering them useless.
