Senior Citizens, remember show and tell time?

Do you remember a special thing you took for Show and Tell you

were really proud of. And the class was impressed, or maybe your

teacher. But especially you for having possession of that thing?

What was it exactly? I remember taking a 'Figa" that my aunt had

brought from S America to share. It was a silver fist, which was a

symbol of good luck when you wore it, in Brazil. My aunt gave all of

her sisters a large one for a bracelet, and I got a very small one, since

I was about ten years old. I lost it and sure regret it today.

I turned up at school as a kid with a Hawaiian shirt on.

I had received it from an American as a gift.

I felt like the 'Bee's knees'.

Yes. I remember. Front of the class & kids always interested.

I didn't like it that much b/c my dad always supplied my item & I'd already written a truck load of reports to him to prove I understood what I was talking about.

He always gave me obscure scientific things that he had access to. It probably would have been fun if I was allowed to participate as a child, but by the time I stood up, I should have been presented a Ph.D. for the thesis involved B4 I ever had a chance to tell my peers about the object.

One was some electronics that were the forerunner of the ignitions that would arm a nuclear warhead. Then I had to explain what kilotons meant & how many lives that involved in a certain populace....

During the days of "stop, drop & cover" as a response to atom bombs it was really disheartening to share information that equaled, "stop, drop & die" there is no cover in an atomic bomb.

Sorry to be a downer here, but that was my reality in youth.

I'd have loved to be able to arrive w/ a jar full of polliwogs in transition to frogs. Dad just wouldn't let things be that simple for me.
