Isn't it ironic that so many liberals/democrats claim they are opposed to slavery?
The entire liberal/democrat support base is built upon the principle of enslaving their support base into dependence on their parties handouts. Once one is dependent, they're incapable of thinking for themselves as leaving the party means they lose the freebies. This is modern day slavery.
The Republican opposition to black slavery is what sparked the Civil War. I've still never figured out why any blacks would ever trust a democrat.
Anyways, I can promise one thing:
If you are able to work in some capacity, and you choose instead to freeload and steal the means of those who do work, you will NEVER be happy in life. Sure, you might think getting high or drunk, etc. is happiness, but it's not. Work is required to be happy.
Will the enslaved ever decide they will work and break free from their captors?

It was not slavery itself that was the problem for republicans, it was what having no slaves meant for their plantation and eventually the pocketbook. Now they would have to pay to have their fields worked and crops brought in. Then as now they wanted to keep the status quo.

Couple things:
1. What freebies do you speak of? Is the Democratic party giving out party favors at the Democratic convention?
2. Blacks were Republicans until FDR. FDR (specifically his wife) cared more about civil rights than any other president before him. Then Truman went 1 step forward and desegregated the military. Once JFK took a hard line pro civil rights stance, many of the Dems who supported segregation left the party and formed the Dixiecrat Party. Once Nixon was desperate to win the Presidency in 1968, he devised the southern strategy, which caused many pro segregationists to join the Republican party. The Dems remained a progressive party that stood in favor of civil rights ever since. That's why many blacks vote Democrat.
3. Both Dems and Repubs work. Think about it. If (during a non recession year) unemployment stays between 4% and 6%, how could one whole party be unemployed and just living off of your so called freebies? Could they all be on welfare? If this were true, nearly 50% of the country would be unemployed. Furthermore, the Federal government spends 1% of it's annual budget on Welfare and 78% of that cost goes to administrative expenses. The numbers just don't add up.
4. It seems you are trying to imply that blacks are Dems because of freebies, and thus don't work. Blacks make up 13% of the population in the USA. If unemployment (during a non recession year) is usually between 4% and 6%, that must mean most blacks do indeed work jobs if they make up 13% of the entire population. Furthermore, most welfare recipients are children. After that it's Caucasian women. I guess my best advice to you would be to do far more research.

Your definition of happy is different from that of others. By claiming the following: "If you are able to work in some capacity, and you choose instead to freeload and steal the means of those who do work, you will NEVER be happy in life. Sure, you might think getting high or drunk, etc. is happiness, but it's not. Work is required to be happy." Does this mean we should be slaves to your version of happiness and ideals? Besides, how can you whine about people not working when, at our best, we only had a five percent unemployment rate? Now, it's at ten percent. Unless you know, FOR SURE, that there are enough jobs for EVERYONE to have one, you shouldn't complain about people being a social program. They are meant to be temporary boosts while in a bad situation. When your done with your rant, feel free to pick up the pile of **** that fell out of your mouth and at your feet.

Those in power always attempt to foster dependence on them. Any Party or Ruler devoted to helping the people become free and independent would be putting itself out of business.
The only defense against being enslaved by government is to strengthen legal protections for Private Property Rights. Unfortunately when the U.S. Constitution was being crafted the need for the support of the Southern States // balanced against a desire to not reinforce their power too much, caused its authors to compromise resulting in that document being notably weak on Property Rights.
Our true defense against the predations of a rapacious government lies in State Constitutions which tend to be much stronger in guaranteeing the right to own and defend Property.
What we should all do is work toward getting something on legal paper saying that we own ourselves; we own our IDENTITY, our LABOR, and all other forms of Property. Sure, there's the 13/14th amendments etc, but that has not prevented both government and business from buying, selling and trading your identity and information about you, much to our detriment.
The legal waters are not friendly to the employer/employee relationship, which the courts think of as a master/servant relationship, which sort of takes it outside the realm of Sovereign Rights and puts it in a category which may be taxed and regulated by government.
If we actually owned our labor, that would protect us from the income tax on it. Technically we do own it but the way things have evolved, an employee may have his labor taxed. And you can't tax a Right because "the power to tax involves the power to destroy".
I think the solution is to be found at the State level, not the Federal. Some States are waking up to the existence of the 10th amendment.
STOP FEEDING YOUR ENEMIES.

Liberal Democrats want to enslave the whole population! Your argument is made in Black Rednecks & White Liberals by Thomas Sowell!! Interesting book.

LOL...
Every race has been enslaved in our country, to include whites. See child labor law reform to get a peak at that one (19th century America). Plus, orphans and homeless Brits were yanked off the streets and sold as slaves in the new colonies. Boat capacity 300, boat occupancy, 600, chained from neck to ankle even in port.
The Civil war was sparked due to new government taxation of the rich Southern Democrat farmers to fund the industrial revolution. Black slavery was an afterthought. Yes, democrats were the slave owners.
I only vote democrat because the repubs always want to cut Veteran's benefits. See John McCain to see his poor history of voting against funding Veterans.

I have made this argument before.
Well stated.
BTW- Republicans were also targeted by the KKK (Started by Democrats) becuase the Republican party allowed blacks to run in political positions. Republican party head quarters were defaced, vandalised etc. as well as party members visted by thugs and violence.
In some respects Democratic tactics hasn't changed, DNC thugs recently visted townhall meetings and the labeling of concerned citizens as "crazies" and "Nazi's" is the same m.o. of years passed.
Source(s): Mr. Wordy- Even after FDR during the 1968 civil rights legislation, it was the REpublican party that passed the legislation LBJ proposed! Most democrats like AL Gores dad (Al Gore Sr.) voted against the legislation! Nice try though. Wage peace- If civil war started becuase of taxation of rich platation owners, how then do you get poor Southern people to risk their lives fighting for something they will never benefit from? The Civil war was fought over Southern independence, not a few rich plantation owners. Try picking up a history book, perhaps one titled "The South was right" by the Kennedy brothers (not jug head Ted and his left tard clan) two nothern brothers who did 10 years of research on the topic prior to ever writing a word for the book. It is backed by evidence, not professor ideology and heresay. - Anonymous1 decade ago
How many hours of your day today did you work to support your Masters in the Insurance Industry? 3 hours? 4 maybe?
Talk about being enslaved...

One might just as easily argue that Conservative / Republican support base is built on the principle of exploiting religious beliefs, fears and bigotry as a method of controlling their constituents. And that their wealth is largely gained from the sweat of the very people who they claim to empower economically. They feed people the saccharine message of "you can't fail if you just work a little harder" - but all the while they're dining on the sweet fruit of that labor.
We can play the "who is worse" game all evening, dragging a dozen different groups or more into the fray.
Let's not, shall we?
- LawgirlLv 71 decade ago
No-because none of us were alive then. I wouldn't have been for slavery back then no matter what the party was called. Furthermore, the parties flip flopped.
The rest isn't relevant because we do work. Lay off the stupid stereotypes.
