do homemade cakes tast diff than cake mix out of box?

Box cakes are made out of the cheapest ingredients, artificial flavors, etc. When you make it yourself, you are using quality butter, real fresh eggs, good chocolate or cocoa, real vanilla, etc. Just read the ingredients on the box - you won't be able to pronounce half of them - make your own.

The basic thing you have to remember is that cake mix out of a box is just pre-measured dry ingredients. It shouldn't taste any different than a homemade cake. However, normally homemade is better simply because most people use better ingredients. For example, you may have Godiva coco powder at your house. The cake mix most likely has some leftover noname coco. I do like the other contributor's answer of tweaking cake mixes. I normally do that. I add high quality vanilla, cinnamon, etc.

oh yes! Homemade is a much better tasting cake if the person knows how to do it.

I make boxed caked mixes taste pretty good because I 'tweak' them a bit, it's all in the know how that comes from decades of practice.

they should be about the same... teh diff is you can tweak your homemade cake a bit...

but.... you can take a box cake and add MORE spices or something to make it extra special...

both are good, its just the box mix can be made a lot faster!!!

They're usually more dense and moist than box cakes.

i honestly prefer them from a box...i know a few people who make them from scratch and i dont like the taste of them
