I have decided that I do not believe in god anymore?
I have come to the following conclusions:
Life is too complicated for any parts of it to be black and white, like many of the bible's teachings.
Why would a god or gods punish a human for not doing things in the perfect way they set out, when it is IMPOSSIBLE for humans to be perfect.
Why would god expect anyone to ignore natural urges and behaviours when god was the one who created them?
Why would someone be punished for eternity for making a mistake, when EVERYONE makes mistakes in life.
It makes no sense, no creature with wisdom would be this cruel and demanding. So I can't believe it, and I genuinely don't.
Why question: Where do I go from here and how do I handle the nastiness I will get from my parents, who I don't even live with
By mistakes I obviously refer to the whole "believe in me in the correct way or else" thing.
Thanks for the support so far xx
I am NOT immoral and don't believe in god.
I understand the bible fine thanks, and this is what I've found.
Sad to see so many can only say I'm too dumb to understand. It's full of cruel things that make no sense, I see it for what is is.

Welcome to reality,
Isn't it nice how in order to achieve atheism all you got to do is use your brain and learn a little... It doesn't take a bunch of people to convince you of it. Atheism is reached alone...
Continue to live your life as you were minus religion....

You can believe what you want but God absolutely exists. Atheists must believe in a first cause that is finite and inferior to the effect. In fact Atheists believe absolutely nothing created everything a few billion years ago. Logic and reason which Atheists have no basis for believing; tell us that the existence of a moral intelligent finite being must be created by an even greater being that is both moral and intelligent and exists outside the the time space continuum. Atheists although may hold to a form of morality cannot have any reason for doing so. As the bible says Atheists are fools.
Truth is absolute it is not based on emotions or what we perceive reality to be. Humans have the potential for being perfect, each individual has chosen to disobey their conscience. Humans have freewill that means we can do good or evil. God punishes humanity because we deserve it, when we sin against him.
We have natural desires that can be satisfied through good means. If you desire sex get married, but do not commit adultery or fornicate.
Why would a judge condemn a murderer to a death penalty, I mean everyone makes mistakes. The bottom line is we are guilty, but yet we are even capable of being forgiven of our sins, if we repent and turn to Jesus Christ.
The reason you do not believe, is because you are immoral and hate God.

Congratulations on drawing your own conclusions rather than accepting dogma. I agree with your conclusions.
I'm 43, I haven't believed since I was about 6, I told my methodist parents in my early teens and yet I still generally avoid the subject with them, as do my atheist sisters (41 and 32).
You can find other non-believers in your area, just look up atheist or humanist on the net, I'm sure you will find local groups, though they may not be for you. In the UK we are pretty secular and not believing is not a big issue, few people belong to such groups.
There are plenty of atheist resources on the web to help you discuss the subject (if you want to).
I wouldn't rush to tell your parents until you feel ready to discuss the subject and understand your own reasoning and logic better.
I don't believe in any god as creator of the universe and I certainly don't believe in a personal god, watching our every move and answering our prayers.
However, I don't feel the need to go around telling others their beliefs are wrong, unless they try to impose fake science in the classroom or use lies to spread their religion to vulnerable people.

I suppose it's a perspective on life where no one questions why we are here. Instead, life is understood as a random occurrence, where due to the infinite combinations and possibilities, earth formed and humans came to be. We just are. We live our life as humans, just as a horse lives its life as a horse, or even how bacteria may live it's own life as bacteria. The human race, however, was lucky (or unlucky) enough to evolve such flexible and creative minds. We appreciate our lives as being what we are: human beings. Rather than designating our human lives to believing we are something else, or a part of something else which has the power to rule our souls for eternity. I'm not necessarily an atheist. However, I've obviously thought about it. I never decided to become anything... I just decide to become whatever feels right and truthful to me at the time. I've thought about life as an atheist mainly so I can discover another point of view (like you) and this contributes to my own personal understanding of what these infinite possibilities are about.

ok, so you have made a decision that you do not believe, but if you cant handle the nastiness why are you posting your decision on a internet forum where you are really opening a can of worms for nastiness?
Im sorry that you feel that God does not exisit but where is your proof? You know the saying "the lord works in mysterious ways that are not mankinds ways". I really believe in that. Sometimes God can seem near, other times he seems far away. Have you tried to build a relationship with God, talk to Him as if he was a friend and pray daily or most days. Perhaps you can ask Him to help you and answer yuour questions.
I believe in God, i dont understand the way he woprks because i am a human but i dont believe that we just happen to exist on planet earth and that is it beyond our planet.
Faith is a test of endurance, a test of stregth and how long you can carry your cross just like Jesus did.

Congratulations sweetie, welcome to the world of the sane. I'm afraid there are not too many sane people at the moment but we are slowly gaining in numbers.
Will you hang around Yahoo Q & A. Curing humanity of the sickness caused by laziness and narcissism, ie religions, is a thankless task but worth the effort I think.
An omnipotent being plus free will is a total oxymoron. The two things are mutually exclusive. No mater how much free will you think you'd have, you can't change something it its outcome is already known.
Only a moron could believe such an oxymoron.

That is your right but its sad you can't come to an understanding about what you believe and how you should act.The Bible is there for instruction, spiritual growth and faith.God doesn't expect you to be perfect he already knows you're not.He does expect your repentance and humility.I guess for some even that is too hard.It is your choice but don't blame God for your failings.Everyone knows right and wrong from a very young age.Parents will love you even when they are disappointed,in time it all works out.Blessings!

Belief is not required except by those who prefer to live in a constant state of judgment of others and themselves.
God is Light, Life & Love. God is Absolute Truth and belief in this is not necessary. All existence remains intact. You are not condemned nor will you ever face condemnation.
However, I would recommend you read "The Shack" when you have time. No I am not of the mindset of converting you or anyone else. Conversion to what? I do not believe in conversion to anything, just simply ask all to Love one another as you so wish to be Loved.
This is your path you have chosen and it should serve you well.
Blessings to you and your decisions.

Everything you are getting confused about, The Bible explains. maybe you need to go to a new church or something because if they cant help you with these ideas at the one you do or dont go to, there is a problem. Firstly you sound like you really need a personal relationship with God. God knows things are not black and white, he walked the earth and experienced everything we do. God does not expect us to be perfect, infact he KNEW the opposite was true, right from EVE. This is why Jesus had to die, so that we could be forgiven for the things that we do. God knows we will always sin and he offers eternal forgiveness if we just ask for it. Mistakes are mistakes hun and yes, everybody makes them. That is again why Jesus died for us, we just need to ask to be forgiven and keep trying not to keep making these mistakes. Your parents should not be nasty to you for saying these things they should just try to explain where you are wrong, I will pray that Jesus shows your parents a bit of compassion and understanding and gives them the knowledge to answer your doubts. Im wondering why you even should feel like this if your parents are truly christians, you should have no doubt about these things in the first place, maybe God really needs to explain a few things to them lol xx

I have been an atheist for a long time since I realized that religion is completely wrong. My advice would be to do nothing. I suppose you could join an atheist group so you could have a community that supports you in your decision. If your parents don't understand why you have come this conclusion, try and tell them. If they still don't get it, then they need to be more open minded.
