Verizon FIOS Internet or Comcast Internet?

I currently have Comcast High speed Internet that drops out a lot(probably from bad cable splitters), and Verizon just installed Fiber-optic cables in my entire neighborhood. Which internet service is faster when you just get the "Basic package" or something like that. Also, do I still have to use my Cable Modem when I get FIOS or...some other kind of cable box? I don't know much about FIOS

I just got Verizon FiOS and I'm quite happy with it. They'll install a new converter box which requires a battery backup. They provide the UPS. If youre existing inside cable meets their specifications they'll use it so their servicemen won't have to be crawling around in the attic or basement. Instead of a modem a router was included in my package. It allows you to hook up 4 computers.

As for speed I ordered the 10/2 (10 megs download 2 upload) package however I'm thinking of upgrading to the 20/5 option, cost 10 dollars a month more.

You can get speeds of up to 50 megabytes, but it'll really cost you. According to the Speakeasy Speed Test actual download speeds of the 10/2 package average 9,892kbps and upload speeds 2,110kbps.

By the way I used to have Charter Cable, they were OK but only offer up to 16 megabytes. Of the two Verizon offered a better package if you also want phone service and TV, more channels for less money.

I have had Verizon Fios Internet for over a year now and it is really good. It pissed me off at first having to pay 50 bucks a month (my apartment building only had Fios) but it really is way faster than the competition that I used for about ten years (Time warner/Adelphia). I thought that was pretty darn good until I got FIOS. I haven't lost an internet connection ever in a year. Turn it on and it is always ready to speed away!

    Hey,

Well to know which is faster you are going to have to visit the Verizon Fios website, because each area has it's own speed. But I would think Verizon Fios just beats out the competition. The price is reasonable for me and extremely fast.
