2006 Ford Escape tailgate open sensor location and how to bypass?
I would like to temporarily fool it to think the tailgate is closed so when I am at the drive-in's with the tailgate open the map lights are off. Where is the tailgate door sensor and is there a way to make it think its closed?
Thanks for your help!

The sensor is Incorporated in the locking mechanism. The easiest way to fool it is to take a screwdriver and push the mechanism closed. Basically, use the screwdriver to act as if the nader bolt is engaged. Problem solved. Just remember that before you shut the tailgate you need to reopen the latch as if opening the door.
Source(s): done it a million times to keep the door dinger quit with the drivers door open and the radio playing.
