How can I improve FM reception on a portable radio?

The radios I have, have a telescopic aerial, and my favorite station is far away. I have the radio on to of my highest shelf, turned for maximum reception, but it is still fuzzy. I have no plugs for external aerials.

Rynbow Use any piece of wire. Attach it to the antenna. Run it over drapery rods and window casings. Throw it out the window and into the nearby tree. Toss it onto the roof. Do the same with two wires. Spend some time experimenting with the placement of these wires; often opposite directions work well. If this is strictly an inside job make sure that you arrange these wires so that you’ll be proud to point them out to visitors. “See my antenna; I get WERU loud and clear!”

sturdy reception relies upon on a minimum of two aspects: the sign and the receiver. each radio receiver desires specific sign point to precise circulate radio waves into sound. regrettably the receiver isn't basically one small field. each receiver desires antenna. Radio antenna is the only ingredient that truly gets radio waves. Antenna is a needed portion of each radio receiver. besides the undeniable fact that, in many situations antenna is the two integrated interior the receiver or is linked to it. yet in factor of reality that it extremely is a needed portion of radio receiver. the final place to place in antenna is suitable of the homestead--roof. This place facilitates unobstructed reception of radio indicators. on your case i anticipate you do not have roof suitable antenna. Radio waves propagate additionally into homestead (provided there at the instant are not any metallic partitions). regrettably, each impediment decreases sign point. this suggests that the sign interior the homestead would be critically under exterior. as nicely to this each of the fixtures, partitions or perhaps your presence disturbs radio waves. subsequently you have worry receiving a station. the final answer could be to mount an exterior antenna. this could determine sturdy reception in all situations. of direction, the radio desires proper antenna enter. interior the case exterior antenna isn't conceivable or the radio has no such enter you should test with its place or perhaps you are able to attempt with indoor antenna. out of your description it extremely is clean that the sign point is low. you are able to not strengthen it yet you are able to strengthen the sign point that is composed of the radio receiver. This magic amplifier is powerful exterior receiving antenna.

donk287 is completely correct, however for the "best" possible reception you will also want to keep the antenna as close to vertical as possible.
