How many murders are committed with a legally obtained firearm?
According to the FBI (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/offenses/expanded_... of the 14k homicides in 2007, 10k were killed by a firearm. so how many of those murders were committed with a legally obtained firearm? Please site sources, i don't want to know your speculation, i can come up with my own.

There is no way to know. In most of the US there is no registration or tracking of private transfers of firearms so you would have to identify each firearm used in a homicide and go back to the manufacturer, if it still exists, and attempt to determine every time it changed hands since it was initially sold. The trail will quickly disappear after the first owner.
