how do you find negative acceleration required to stop an object?

If a puck falls to a full stop in a time of 1.08 s from initial impact, what acceleration (assumed constant) is experienced by the puck during the impact with the ground?

I know the downward acceleration is constant 9.8m/s^2.. but not how to account find the velocity required to stop something

Update:

All I'm given is the time between impact and stopping (1.08s) and the intuition that the object is falling at 9.8m/s^2 (constant acceleration downward)

    Sounds like a Momentum - Impulse problem

    Momentum = Mass * Velocity

    Impulse = Force * Time

    Mo = Im

    ===>

    Mass * velocity = Force * Time

    Then

    Force = Mass * Acceleration

    Fill in what you know and solve
