looking up the codes on a ford f150 without cigarette lighter?
i found a store that can look up my codes for free, but the catch is without the cigarette lighter working, the codes wont flash for the computer to read it, they said that we have to get that fixed in order for the codes to flash, since they don't know any trick that works (such as on a dodge truck turn the ignition on and off 3 times, without starting it up, and the codes will flash) they know no tricks to a ford, so any ideas on how to get it to work? by the way its a 93 f150 4.9 ltr 6 cylinder

On a 93 you may have an OBD 1 type system. ( on board diagnostic)
try using a analog type 12v voltmeter and use the fuse panel under the driver side colum to read codes. one end shall be grounded and the other shall be in contact with one of the female ends of the fuse panel. Although I am not sure what fuse to run off of. Try the lighter fuse circuit. How to read the code is simple. Count the bounce of the needle on the analog volt meter if it bounces 2 times, pauses then bounces 1 time you have code 21 and so on.

ok its not so much the cigarette lighter working its the fuse that powers it, in the plug that the code read plugs into is a power wire for the code reader , that wire is on the same fuse as the lighter , so if the lighter is bad or keeps blowing the fuse you need to remove the lighter element and toss it and put in a new fuse ,this should cure it , if not then theres a short in the lighter socket and it needs to be fixed

Forget whoever you are wanting to look at your codes.
Find a reputable repair shop with a qualified TEch to look at your truck
If they cannot make the scan tool work on your truck, I really doubt they can accurately give you codes. .
