My family is from Potenza. Well, the city itself is small and not so full of life. The best things of the region Basilicata are the wild nature and the small medieval towns (Melfi, Rivello, Matera, and many others). So my cultural suggestion is to take a car and travel through the region.

    Food is excellent, absolutely wonderful.

No mafia there. Probably one of the safest places of Italy to travel. You could really walk the streets covered with gold and you woulnd't be touched.

Another thing: Basilicata is full of mountains high up to 2000m. It's generally a very cold place. Potenza itself is at more than 800m, and it is submerged of snow like 4 months per year. Wild weather for a wild place
