I am giving a presentation on backpacking?
I am in charge of the nutrition part of the presentation for my scout troop.
I need a good diet for "On the Trail".

On the trail and lunch:
My cousin put me onto flour tortilla wraps. Spread on chunky peanut butter and sprinkle with dried fruit or standard GORP. Then roll them up and plastic bag 'em.
Fast, easy, stores for a couple of days, nutritious.
They're a bit heavy in the pack for trekking but a high energy food.
I mix my own GORP: mango, apricots, almonds, raisins, cherries, soy beans, and any high fiber cereal like shredded wheat.
Chocolate is high energy sugar, but it coats the tongue and makes you thirsty. I'd leave it for the end of the trail.
Breakfast:
Old fashion oats with honey wheat germ, powdered milk. Pour on hot water. Again, you can mix in the dried fruit. Hot chocolate on the side.
Dinners:
Top Ramen is high in fat, super easy to cook. Add a packet of tuna (no cans please). Instant potatoes, instant rice, anything that cooks in boiled water--in less than 15 minutes. Add instant soups for flavoring. If you're in an area where you can harvest natural foods, cattail roots roast well, taste good with a sprinkle of salt.
Of course you can't count on catching fish, but a nice roasted trout is a great addition to any meal!

Technically, hard tack, jerky and coffee will keep you going for months.
why the hell people think they need all that Foo-Foo stuff just blows me away.....never seen such mollycoddled fool hardies except in the forest!LOLOL!!!!!!!
