Is it essential for all Jehovah's Witnesses to be animal lovers and keen gardeners?

Otherwise, how could a paradise earth be paradise for JWs who don't like animals or gardening?

I was reading answers to the recent question by Jack, "According to JWs what will the future paradise earth be like?" and one JW quoted Isa. 11:6 & 65:20, all about the animals being peacable, children playing with leopards, lions and snakes, and planting vineyards with wolves and lambs feeding together. Another JW enthused about beautiful scenery and parks, all without trash or pollution. Yet another JW said, "The paradise earth will be a beautiful gardenlike setting" and another said, "Much like the original paradise before man fell into sin, in the Garden of Eden, ony better - a paradise of pleasure."

Sounds to me like an awful lot of animal husbandry and gardening will be involved. Not to mention farming. What if some people have no love of animals or growing things?

Update:

There's nothing 'bad' about that, Vot. Please don't put words into my mouth. It's just a technical hitch for some people. Those who don't love animals probably like to shoot them, you see. Unless the new earth's inhabitants are to be vegetarians from Day 1, the animals will still fear man and could not possibly act as Isaiah prophecies. So my question ought to include the dilemma for unrepentant carnivores - how will they like being forced to eat nothing but fruit and vegetables (after working the soil to produce them?)

Update 2:

Abernathay - your answer made me smile. Thank you! It's also probably true that a love of animals and gardens is in-born and that "Imperfection may make some people not that way". A bit like how realisation of God is in-born but atheists' imperfection may make them not that way as they get older? A charitable view.

Interesting question. Out of the seven million Jehovah’s Witness survivors of Armageddon, I wonder how many really useful people will be around to sustain life and ensure everyone has clean drinking water and basic food just to keep them going till the planet recovers. Planting flowers and playing with animals is unlikely to be at the top of the priority list once the dust settles and the survivors take stock of their surroundings. And I think gourmet cooking, arts and travel will be the last thing on the survivors’ minds when the rose-tinted spectacles finally come off and they have to face up to reality.

Reality is pollution on a global scale the likes of which they have never contemplated. The destruction that is Armageddon will not only kill over six billion people, whose rotting corpses will contaminate the soil, the water and the air, it will also put an end to electricity. Without electricity there will be no energy to provide heating or cooking or power to run computers. Without electricity and computers, nuclear and petrochemical plants and oil refineries will be ticking time bombs. Without proper management, light-end gases will dissipate into the air. Sulphur by-products will dissolve and create acid rain. Volatile hydrogen will leak from tanks and float away unless lightning ignites it. At first, emergency power plants will kick in and maintain stability until diesel fuel runs out. High pressures and high temperatures will result in huge explosions and fires which will eject poisons into the atmosphere. Mere static electricity from fluids moving through pipes could spark ignition in natural gas wells, or in oil wells pressurised with nitrogen to bubble up petroleum. Just think about what’s lurking in the Gulf of Mexico and Kuwait. A gas well fire burns on the surface, since it needs air, but who would cap the wellheads? Burning plants will throw up clouds of hydrogen cyanide resulting in massive poisoning of the air, blown across the globe by the trade winds. All those particulates in the atmosphere will create a mini chemical nuclear winter. Chlorinated compounds like dioxins and furans from burning plastics will be released with lead, chromium and mercury attached to the soot. Europe and North America, with the biggest concentrations of refineries and chemical plants will be the most contaminated, but the clouds will disperse through the world, killing plants and animals. Gradually, life would resume.

But let’s put our rose-tinted spectacles back on and assume Jehovah will only selectively destroy the wicked, miraculously get rid of all the corpses without any contamination or disease and keep all the power plants (nuclear, gas and electric) and petrochemical refineries ticking safely away. I do not say this mockingly – with God all things are possible. But please remember, there will only be seven million survivors, scattered all over the globe. Never mind about having enough farmers and zoologists around to take care of harvests and animals, how many scientists and engineers will there be to run the utilities (water, sanitation and power) and take care of construction? And how many ecologists will there be to take charge of the pollution already on our planet, especially in the oceans? Out of the seven million Jehovah’s Witnesses who hope to survive Armageddon, how many have the necessary skills to run global projects to sustain life by producing food and energy? And how many of you will have to roll up your shirt-sleeves and get down to some back-breaking work in order to eat? Planting flowers, painting pretty pictures, making music and decorating the lovely homes you hope to inhabit might have to go on the back-burner while you sort out where your next meal is coming from. As Annsan points out, playing with lions and tigers might not happen overnight, either. Unrepentant carnivores will probably be grateful to eat whatever they can, especially without abattoirs and butchers around to get their dinner ready for the table. Still, it is a lovely dream of utopia, with shades of H.G. Wells’ Time Machine.

Before Armageddon arrives, some of you might want to take a reality check and read the book ‘The World Without Us’ by Alan Weisman (Virgin Books Ltd, published 2008) in order to prepare for survival in the highly unlikely and improbable event that the earth will not be transformed overnight into the paradise you anticipate after Armageddon.

Humans have an inborn love of animals and gardens.

This is most noticeable in children, who are fascinated with animals and love going to the zoo. As for gardens, almost everyone is drawn to the inherent beauty of creation, and like going to parks.

That is what is natural for humans. Imperfection may make some people not that way.

  • I've just got to say that your question made me laugh.

You guys focus on the strangest of things you know. We preach about the end of sickness, death, pain & suffering etc ... & you focus on animal husbandry (Lol!)

Well, the bible promises that we will have exquisite delight in the new system .... so ... those who don't like animals or gardening will either have to change ...or Jehovah will have another way of working it all out.

As for me, I'll just concentrate on getting there in the first place & worry about things like gardening when I'm actually there, if I make it

Gourmets will have a lot of fun too. So many recipes and stuff to experiment with (no expensive "exotic" ingredients) for all eternity!!! Yum yum yum!!!

Engineers and others who love to construct things will have all the time in the world (and the mental capacity to go with it) to invent things. Today's technology would be primitive by far!!!

Chemists and related scientists will have their fun too. While they won't be making medicines, I think we will still need paints for the houses and the inventions the engineers will be making. Think of all the pretty colours and designs!!!

Those who love to study outer space will enjoy having all the time in the world to study all the galaxies and constellations!!

The artists! They'lll have such wonderful scenery to paint! Those who make such beautiful music now- imagine how beautiful music made by a perfect human would sound! The dancers- with perfect joints and flexibility!!!

Those good at crafts- I donno whether we'll need clothes, but imagine all the pretty stuff they could make to decorate people's homes with!

Those who are obsessed with travelling now but have trouble with air tickets and visas and stuff- they can travel the planet over and over and over and all the time keep meeting new people, making new friendships and seeing new things!!!

    Need Vot go on?

And no matter what one's field of interest is, we'll have this in common- a deep love for Jehovah God and Jesus Christ his Son, and love for everyone else on earth and mankind will be one united and peaceful family!!!

    How can *that* be bad???

Is it essential for all Jehovah's Witnesses to be animal lovers and keen gardeners or what ever else Satan can dream up for them. He does like to keep them busy and away from the truth. Why have you ever noticed that they don't even have a bible. No they don't they have this book called the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. This is a book that has taken the bible and retranslated it by some men in Brooklyn New York to fit a doctrine that they had prior to reading the bible. Did you also know that he keep them very busy reading all the time. Yes, I know it's hard to believe. But they read somewhere about 3,000 page a year from their Watchtower Publications and about 200 pages in thier New World Translation. Then they go out and spread the good news, what ever that is, door to door. Yep Satan keeps his elect very busy. He would never let them have time to digest real spiritual food as they would learn truth and leave that Organization of Satan's Watchtower bible and Track Society.

Your missing the point. There will be universal peace. people will get along with each other and Jehovah will provide what we need as he did the manna for the Jews.

We are only babes now talking about these good things we have learned to like in a few short years We all even in our short existence change in our food likes and dislikes ie. when as a boy I hated tomatoes ,yuk I would say now I can eat them till they come out of my ears, lol. Small example only.

A kayak-I as a boy would say yes they are good if you could have one for each foot (I was used to big boats) now as a (grunt) man I can squeeze my self into one and become 1 (one) with it and barge through rough seas or large river standing waves and come out with a dirty BIG grin from ear to ear. Small example of change from dislike to love

We will change with better health and changing attitude and no Devil to knock us about with negativity . Just a positive loving Creator along with his son our leader.

My wife will take care of the yard, I will take care of the animals.

And in between, work on my new telescope (radio, not optic).

My wife, trying to teach me how to sing.

I know the first is possible, my wife hopes the second will be too.
