I was home schooled at home for all 13 years of my education and I feel that it prepared me well for life. Several things about homeschooling. You need to know the laws for your state. The Department of Education in most states has some sort of requirements that you must fulfill. Examples include: a supervisory teacher to check up 3-4 times a year or a requirement of standardized testing once a year to make sure you're progressing. Especially on the highschool level, you have to be self motivated and be able to dig stuff out on your own. It's tougher material than elementry school and you don't have a teacher specially trained in that subject sitting right beside you to explain. Getting a good curriculum is key. I would suggest a program that includes video lectures or a satellite teacher. Abeka and Bob Jones are two that I'm familiar with (I didn't personally use video school because it was just emerging when I was in school). There are also curriculum that utilize computer programs to help you understand the information. Getting involved in a homeschool support group is also a big help. A lot of groups provide tutoring in subjects you're struggling with as well as providing an opportunity to get together with other homeschoolers. If you do decide to go with homeschooling I would also suggest getting your GED so you end up with something that's equal to a diploma. There are a few schools that will offer diplomas to the homeschool students in their area but most don't. That way you don't have to go through a lengthly explanation of why you don't have a diploma when you go to get a job. Hope this helps. Good luck in getting that education and keep on working towards it no matter what you decide.
