Why are there so many misconceptions about Shaq and the Cavs?

I mean.. I see the same thing over and over again.

"Shaq is old and can't play any more"

The dude made the all NBA third team last year. Not to mention he was the all-star game MVP.

"Shaq will do to the Cavs, what he did to the Suns"

How? The Cavs play halfcourt slow ball.. the Suns play run-n-gun....

Completely different.

If anything Shaq helps the Cavs with their small/non-physical big men.

"LeBron's driving will be messed up with Shaq"

Again. How?

It's not like the Cavs can' t run plays where Shaq steps out of the key area. Not to mention Lebron, can, will and has dunked over his own teammate.

Discuss.

Okay, before everything else I want to say that I love Shaq a lot. Especially when he was on the Lakers and my love for him never disappeared when he left the Lakers.

"Shaq is old and can't play any more"

-Sure, Shaq can play. But he wouldn't dominate - he is old. We have to face the facts. But don't forget that he had KOBE BRYANT&PJ on his team last All-Star.

"Shaq will do to the Cavs, what he did to the Suns"

-He will do it to Cavs too. What's the difference between the Shaq now from Shaq a year ago? Not so much, I believe. It didn't help the Suns, I don't see it helping the Cavs either. He is old. He will slow them down - like it or not. He is way too big - yes, I've seen him a lot of times. The last time was last regular season, I went to twice last regular season to see Shaq (&the Suns) play against the Lakers. (Staples is walking distance from my house.)

"LeBron's driving will be messed up with Shaq"

This wasn't like when he was still on the Lakers. Shaq with Kobe is different from Shaq with LeBron. Cleveland NEEDS a bigger court if they want Shaq. Also, LeBron is way physically bigger than Kobe (Nope, I'm not saying that LeBron is better than Kobe because we both know that ain't true). Shaq has passed his prime - we also have to accept that. But yeah, I still do love Shaq.

Source(s): But yes, Cavaliers do need a big man. But it does not have be Shaq.

Yeah I see your point and I agree with you. having Shaq in the line up will definitely make the Cavs better this year on offense because even at his advanced age, Shaq will still command a lot of double teams inside the paint. No single player in the NBA right now can and will stop Shaq one on one inside.

However, the big question will be in the defensive end of the court. Shaq has already lost some of his mobility and Im afraid that he may become a liability for the Cavs on defense, specially in the playoffs.

But we will never know until we actually see him play alongside lebron, he may as he did a lot of times before, prove all of us Nay sayers wrong and deep inside Im hoping that he will cos even though Im a Laker fan, I've always liked Shaq and a part of me is hoping that he goes out with a huge Bang to end his career. and what bigger way to end it than to win a title in Cleveland with Lebron. If that happens he would have been the only player to win titles with the 3 best players in the game right now. KOBE, WADE AND LEBRON.

Im hoping for another Laker Championship this year again but if they fail to do so, Id hope for the Cavs to win it all. Peace.

I think Shaq will be able to help the Cavs especially in the post.

Some people probably expect Shaq to dominate like he used to. He can't do that anymore but that doesn't mean he will not be effective. He is a good addition to the Cavs, a good inside presence and a veteran who could teach some tricks to the younger ones.

I think one misconception I see about Shaq is that Cleveland is expecting him to play the entire season. I see him playing a maximum of 50 regular season games while playing 25 minutes a game in these contests.

Cleveland has proven they can have a great record without Shaq, so it only makes sense to keep Shaq fresh for big games and the playoffs.

The old and cant play misconception is similar, but I know Shaq can still play. He is old, but if his minutes decrease and he is rested in games where he is not needed, there is no reason for him not to be an impact player in the playoffs.

I do question whether Mike Brown knows this though, as he has not proven himself to be the most intelligent coach in the best.

im a cavs fan and i dont believe in all this crap except of 1."lebrons driving will be messed up with shaq" of course it will, and no if you put shaq on the perimeter who will go out there(the dude cant make a damn shot outside the paint) but he will help the cavs out. now they have a guy to post up inside that they never had before. he can also go out and get 20 or 30 points a night so if lebron starts having one of thoses nights shooting 5 for 19 then they can just dish the ball down to shaq and let him work. lets face it, shaq can still play so he will get double teamed and thats perfect for their shooters(mo williams, boobie, delonte west, etc)

Shaq is a great player still, but he will cause problems for LeBron driving to the lane.. Sure he can step out, but who is there to get the rebound now ?

lol I can't agree more some people just don't use common sense. And second shaqs not that fat to mess up Lebron in the paint

I completely agree with you, that's about all I can really say.

But, I think Shaq has maybe 3 years left, at best.

    I agree with everything

Shaq was brought in to fill in the cavs biggest weakness, not just a random move.
