Would it be smart to go to a community college to take the prerequisites before going to a university?
This has been asked several times before but i just want to make sure. I just started my senior year. I reside in Nevada and there aren't really any good universities here since we're at the bottom end when it comes to education. We do get a millennium scholarship for attending a school here, though. I want to be a pharmacist and USC is my top choice right now, but i'm trying to find out if i can have safety schools in this state. My AP Gov teacher says its not a good idea to go to community college first. I'd like a second opinion please

I wouldn't recommend it really, unless you're 100% positive you know what major you want and aren't going to change it.
Transferring credits is a major pain in the ***. You've got to be positive that the community college has classes that will transfer to the university as your required classes.
Plus, your first year at the university will be hard, with everything new and living away from home, etc. It's hard whether you go now or later, but freshmen classes are easier to do well in and easier to recover from if you fail compared to your Junior classes which will all be required for your major.
But, of course, it's a lot cheaper to stay back.
It's do-able, just more annoying.

Be aware some Schools of Pharmacy do not recognize pre-pharmacy courses taken in Community College.
If money is a serious issue, then you have no choice but to take a year or two in Community College, but the intellectual atmosphere in a real university is much higher, so you should do better in the PCAT if you enroll in a university right from the start.
University of Nevada-Reno has a decent school for Chemical Engineering, which would be a good major for Pharmacy.

It's smart to go to community college first IF you have a good reason. If money's tight, you might want to start at a cheaper community college. If you weren't able to get in to the school you wanted, going to community college proves you can handle college level work. However, if you want the full, 4-year college experience starting freshman year, go for it if you have the opportunity.

well i personally would do the community college first. if you do the 2 year program and then you can sign a contract for automatic transfer. it will save you so so so so so much money!!!! plus you will be learning the same things in the UC school the first 2 years so why pay twice as much? any other questions just ask
