How to restore from disc after crash.?

I had a incident and had to wipe the hard drive. I have all info backed up on DVD,s. How ever i can,t figure how to get this to load back on my lap top. I am running Vista home basic on a dell Inspiron 1525.

Can some one tell me how to put this back on my hard drive.

Update:

I did use the restore disc to put the operating system back on my computer. So all of the functions are there. And the DVD,s were burned using the back up and restore function found in my control panel. I tried to restore there and can,t.

DVD not CD's? Most computers have a system restore cd that comes with it. If you would of did the install through that then you at least would have all the factory installed software. While you may be able to pull up files, you really need the programs to reinstall. Having the programs already on a different drive will not necessarily work because they need to boot off of the windows that was in place when they were initially installed.

It depends on how you made the backup. Did you simply copy files and burn them to CD? If so then all you have to do is drag/drop them into the appropriate location.

If, on the other hand, you use some sort of backup utility to create the cd, you would need to install that utility and use its "restore from backup" function.
