ok, words from a computer geek:

there are 1024MB in 1 GB. got it?

you have 504MB of ram meaning 504mb of USABLE ram.

you really have 512 MB which is half of 1024 which means you have...

half a gig of memory in your computer. tah dah!

add another gig, and you have 2 gigs!

    --

your memory speed is 533MHz also called DIMM PC2-4200

the 1.60 GHz is the processor speed meaning, you know those intel commercials, "bum bum bum bum!"

    you dont add them together.

you cant increase the speed without burning the computer. its called overclocking.

The clock speed of the RAM is not added to speed of the CPU, so you will not have a 2.11 GHZ processor.

If your laptop has 2 slots for RAM, then you can add the 1GB module and add to your total. If you have only one slot then you will have to remove the stick that's in there and replace it with the 1 GB stick, giving you the 1 GB of total RAM.

When you add ram, you need to add 2 matching sticks of ram, like I just bought 2 1G sticks of ram. My desktop has 4 places for ram, I had 2 -256 sticks of ram in the number 1 and number 2 spot, I was told to take them out and leave them out and put the 2 - 1G sticks in there place. Everything worked out fine. I'm running XP 32bit service pack 3. I can really see the difference in performance.

I was told that you must move the old ram out of the number 1 and 2. i downloaded the service manual from Dell.

I just saw that you have a laptop so you will have to see how many places you have for ram.

Go to http://www.crucial.com/ and do the free scan, this will tell you what your options are for installing more RAM.

The Clock speed of your computer won't change by installing more RAM, this is fixed by the CPU
