Rental company refuses payment for court costs?

Ok, my friend lost her job last year and was almost evicted. She paid what she owed but also ended up moving out of state for awhile. She left her roommate in the apartment, who was not on the lease, (stupid I know) and that person wrecked the apartment and stole her belongings. My friend is now trying to rent an apartment in another city back in this state but her credit check states that she owes the rental company $68 for court costs. I went to pay it for her but they refused it stating that she owes 2k dollars. But when she called they told her they don't know how much she owes and need to draw up paperwork. I think they are trying to serve her court documents. At any rate, can they refuse to accept payment for something that is already documented? Or can she just pay the Clerk of Court? This is really preventing her from having a place to live.

I have a feeling that your friend is not telling you the entire story.

    Here is how it work:

    1. Your friend signed a lease..it doesn't matter what happened with the rent or how the damages occurred....SHE is legally responsible.

    2. No apartment complex is required to report anything to the credit bureau, and all items reported is subject to verification. IT IS NOT CONSIDERED LEGAL DOCUMENTATION FOR ANY DEBT.

    3. For damages, probably lost rent and court costs, I can easily see how it can get to $2K.

She needs to get something in writing stating what she shes..she needs to get a certified check for that amount so she has a copy and send it certified mail to who she owes it to. She needs to make sure she keeps those papers forever....because she'll have to pay the debt again if she loses them and they re-report it to her credit.

She would be STUPID to pay ANY debt without written proof of what she owes if it's past due.

Yes, they can refuse your payment, since it appears to be considered 'partial'. Expect that the management will serve the court documents, and then your friend's credit check will show that she owes $68 PLUS $2000. And then she will need to pay off the entire amount before she will be able to find another place. That is why they won't take the small payment. They are using this to put pressure on your friend to pay up.

makes you ask your self how a bankrupt man or woman can prepare adequate funds to purchase a construction, even a down fee, while the financial disaster courtroom takes all the factors to repay the lenders. Are you asking if this proprietor has the capacity, all by making use of himself, to postpone the courtroom courtroom situations perpetually? He does not. The very next time the guy asks for a continuance or a postpone of any variety, you may oppose that attempt, and fasten your affidavit in which you tell the courtroom of what the dude advised you concerning his plan. BTW, you will choose a criminal expert. A counter-declare per failure to maintain could succeed however the damages are frequently very gentle and infrequently could they conceal all the unpaid hire. Damages are computed using fact the version interior the cost of the hire for a maintained construction and an unmaintained construction. it truly is frequently not very a lot funds.
