Why don't the parents want their children to listen to Obama as he encourages children as they start school?

These people want their children to only be exposed to people who they approve of, much the same way their own parents raised them.

And since all presidents have spoken to school children, I think it's blatantly OBVIOUS why they don't want President Obama to speak to their children about the importance of an education.

Their children will grow up to hate them for many reasons, the least of which their refusal to let them meet the President of the United States.

They are racist and un-American and I am ashamed and embarrassed FOR THEM, since they obviously aren't capable of it.

I believe if it wasn't for the uproar then it would have been more political. Especially when you look at the fact that they revised the suggested curriculum after the uproar. I also believed before today that it would ultimately be nothing. Either way it is advantage Obama. If there is no uproar then he can politicize his speech, and if there is an uproar he can focus the speech to make those that made noise look like paranoid loonies. I told my parents this weekend that he would do just what he did. If you look at some of his mentors their objective is to work their opponents into a frenzy making them look foolish, and less able to think clearly while they appear the level headed logical one. Obama is very calculating & strategic, and he is controlling the chess game now.

That is the parent choice. I for one wish they keep their kid or kids home that day. Do us all a favor. Maybe the ones that want to hear it can hear it in peace.

God knows, these parents are not with their child 24 7 and only think they know what their child or children have been exposed to. They the parent need to grow up.

President Obama I am sure only want to talk a positive message about staying in school and the importance's of a good education. What is so wrong with that?

Because the White House ALSO released "study plans" for the teachers to use after his speech... Study plans with discussion questions like, "How will you help President Obama?" That doesn't sound like a speech dedicated to working hard and staying in school. It sounds like a speech, ala Hitler's Youth Movement, trying to indoctrinate their young minds-full-of-mush towards a partisan point of view.

It's different when a President goes to a particular school and meets with the kids live. That's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Seeing the President on TV? He's been on TV in the last year more than most presidents have been on TV in their entire administration. Kids should be going to school to learn... not be indoctrinated.

I believe it is the stick that is shoved up their *sses. Some one should seriously remove it before it gets infected.

Yes that should be a parental responsibilty But what about those children who come from disfunctional or abusive homes. Who is encourageing them to continue with their education? The percentage of minority students that are dropping out is increasing because they dont have the motivation, or the money to continue their education. Unfortunatly there is also large percentage of minority families who do not believe that education is a priority in their childrens lives. So they do not obligate their children to attend school instead they make them get jobs.

Because it's obvious that that will NOT be a regular any President talk to the children, there's a plan already in place for the teachers to use his speech to brainwash children. My children are grown up but I support 100% parents that oppose it, especially on keeping their children home on that specific day.

YOUR president (small caps on purpose) has a very well define socialist agenda and the brainwashing children is part of all socialist government agenda.

Be brave, check: Cuba, Venezuela, China, Russia,...etc.

If I had kids and Obama came to the school to talk to them I would listen very carefully to as what he says to them....Did you guys see on t.v. where kids back east was doing a Pledge of Allegiance to Obama in SCHOOL? I read it on line and neighbor told me....

Due to prior experiences with other Presidents... Like when Bush stayed sat while the towers were exploding as if there was no emergency. The dude didn`t even budge! YOU ARE THE PRESIDENT... AT LEAST SAY SOMETHING!

Obama is doing a great job.

As you have probably noticed if you have been on this site, republicans are extremely short of intelligence and consistency but very big-mouthed.

Because most Republicans are ignorant and stupid, and they want their children to be ignorant and stupid too. If a mass-murdering terrorist like Bush Sr. could speak to the kids in 1991, a decent man like President Obama should be able to also.
