If you agree to settle a debt for less (ex.credit card), can you still file bankruptcy on that debt later?

If you accept the agreement to settle your debt for less, is there anything you sign that says you cannot file bankruptcy on it if unable to keep up the payments?

If you've already settled the amount & paid the agreed upon settled amount then you have nothing to file BK on in regards to that particular card. If you owed $10,000 but settled at $5000 & paid that amount off because you had it available to pay then your debt is settled. However, if you agree on the amount & then are put on some type of payment plan (which is weird because most settled amounts are in cash 1 time amounts) & then decide to file BK then the agreed upon balance at time of BK will be the amount that's filed in the courts. Either on a Chapter 7 where all your bk'd accounts are liquidated or a 13 where you are on a payback plan.

do no longer waste money with a debt settlement company. If those are modern-day bills, you may or won't get everywhere with them in negotiating a settlement. maximum won't evaluate settlement for much less except you're way at the back of on money. you're maximum suitable guess could be to deliver letters explaining your incapacity problem and which you purely have a 40% lump sum to settle the debt. some could settle for, some won't. Get a written settlement and shop it, alongside along with your cost evidence, forever. do no longer supply the creditor direct get admission to on your economic company account. If the mastercard won't settle on your settlement furnish, you may desire to easily supply up paying and need they sell the account off to a collection company the place you have got the flexibility to artwork out a settlement deal. for sure, the mastercard company could as we talk sue you.

I think you can, unless you signed a paper agreeing NOT to file bankruptcy.
