I think it was great match for melanie and really booted her confidence. Though Sharapova did make the match easier with all the double faults, Oudin played some great shots. If she continues to perform like this she could get to the qf or maybe the sf. I think that real test for Oudin will start here. Sharapova is still coming back from a daunting injury, and Dementieva seemed tired and weak to me. Her next opponent is Pennetta who is also having a breakthrough season. Pennetta is beating some opponents 6-0 or 6-1. If Oudin pulls through she might have to face Serena, who is playing incredible so far.

She played well, but not great. Sharapova had too many double faults, and racked up too many unforced errors, which contributed majorly to her loss. But,Oudin had to be the better player to win and at the end of the day,a win is still a win no matter how badly Sharapova played. So well done Oudin!
She was able to absorb the power of Sharapova's big serves, and made her make so many errors to gain points. She also hit shots all over the court, making Sharapova run all over the court and hitting wide. And she was able to capitalize on Sharapova's mental and serve instability. Only thing going on for Oudin was her inability to close the sets quickly. I guess its fine though, considering her lack of experience being in crucial situations like this,it'll get better with time.
She's indeed a talent, let's see how she fares against Petrova.

It was more of a Sharapova loss, than an Oudin win. Sharapova was clearly injured. And yet she hanged on until the end.
By the way, the commentators of CBS were incredibly annoying. Give Oudin all this praise while lambasting Sharapova.
The way they praised Oudin, you would've thought she was the number one ranked player in women tennis. Not there yet kid.

she did play her well, but at the same time... sharapova was not playing as great as she usually does. The faults is what gave Oudin the victory. If sharapova played the way she usually does it would have been something other than " more than great performance by Oudin.. she would be packing her clothes and heading back to GA. But i did gain alot of respect for the young girl. But i still love Sharapova - maybe we can pull it off next year. :)

Oudin's at a good start, 17's a pretty good age to be at that level. But Sharapova wasn't playing at her best, and how many unforced errors and double faults did she make? I thought that it was easy for Melanie to pull through, because of how many errors her opponent made. If Oudin were against Serena? That would be a different story.

Sharapova is on her way out. I don't think the female body is build for power. A lot of female players are forcing it and therefore causing injuries and cut their career short. Oudin is in a disadvantage because of her height. She can over come it with quickest and youth but she will always have to work much harder than other players and it will take it toll. Even her idol, Justine Henin which is a great player had to retire in her late 20's. :(

I was disappointed. I wanted Sharapova to win, but she wasn't in top shape. Oudin had some great shots though. She definitely knows how to aim her shots. I think some more consistent and aggressive players will demolish her though.

i don't think its great, but i'd say it's typical. sharapova was not 100% and oudin was. oudin being the better player won the match. i'd say it could have been great if sharapova was 100% and oudin beat her in straight sets. then THAT is GREAT!

Even if Maria was not playing her very best, it is still pretty amazing that a seventeen your old with not that much experience could beat a top contender like Maria.
