Invalid boot.ini file...please help?
When my brothers try to turn their computer on, it starts, then shows:
Invalid boot.ini file
loading(or booting) from c:\windows
then it asks in which mode to start Windows. I tired them all(starting Windows normally, in safe mode, and last known good configuration), but it just restarts every time, and does the same thing again and again.
They say that all they did was pressing the button for turning the computer on/off while playing some game. Their computer is new, they've had it for less than a year.
What could the problem be and how can it be fixed?
Oh yeah, and their OS is Windows XP

Quickest way is to "Repair" Windows, form the System Recovery Disk that came with the unit.
Don't do the 'Formatted' Install; that will overwrite all the hard drive, and erase your pic's, music & doc's.
The bios will need to have 'Boot from CD' setting; then the disk will need to be in the tray; then restart the system.
Disk should ask what you want to do; select the 'Repair windows' option; follow prompts.
