How much should my baby sleep?
My daughter sleeps about 12 hours at night (waking up for feedings are few times). She is five months. Can I still expect her to nap much during the day? She only takes cat naps during the day - never really long naps.

At 5 months my son slept 12 solid hours at night and took around 3 x 1 hour naps per day! It felt like he was constantly sleeping, and I did wonder if it was too much, but it was obviously what worked for him. Some babies like their sleep much more than others, my son just happens to be one of them!

By 3 months of age it is considered healthy for a baby to sleep through the night on their own without any feedings, starting at about 8hrs and gradually increasing. 10-12hr nights are considered healthy. At 5 months they should still be expected to have 2-3 naps anywhere between 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hrs each. Of course everyone is different but a baby should be left to sleep until at least 1 hr has gone by. I highly recommend the book On Becoming Babywise. I would swear by it! My son is 6 1/2 months and sleeps around 12 hours at night and has 2 good naps during the day. He is a very happy, healthy baby!!
