what can i do to improve the horsepower of my 3.0 v6 1992 ford ranger?

I would start will a full service of the vehicle if you havent had one recently (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil change etc..). Granted this wont make it super fast but at least you will make sure you have a good platform to start on. After that I would look into getting an afermarket exhaust system. Something from a big name since they actually do some R&D on their products. If you cant afford that then look into just replacing your muffler with a flowmaster, borla, magnaflow, or something like that. You can try to find an intake for the vehicle. Anything that replaces the stock airbox and filter will help. If you cant find anything like that then look for a K&N replacement filter. If you get an intake and exhaust and still want more start researching a programmer for your vehicle and if after all that you still want to go faster buy a V8 mustang!

For a vehicle that old, I think you'd be wasting your money to do ANYTHING, because anything that would make a significant difference would cost a bundle.

If you MUST do something, try a better quality air filter. Check to see if K&N makes a filter for your truck. You might be surprised at the difference that would make. It's pretty good bang for the buck.

The next step up after that would be a new exhaust system. Now you're into hundreds of bucks. Is it really worth that for a '92?

Anything you do to the engine would be foolish, unless you rebuild the thing completely. Now you are well over a grand.

Is it REALLY worth that? What for? Just do you can feel a bit more power?

Getting the valves ground and add a bigger cam.
