There are no set rules. Females can have all the same symptoms as males.

The difference is not in the symptoms but in the way it affects their lives. In childhood ADHD affects a lot more males than females. Around 4-5 males are diagnosed with ADHD to every female.. In adulthood the ratio is equal, but this is an inborn disorder, it doesn't develop in adulthood. What these figures mean is that boys tend to grow out of their ADHD as they get older but girls don't.

This is because ADHD is severely worsened by female hormones. Girls tend to get a lot worse when they enter puberty. A woman's ADHD will then fluctuate with her menstrual cycle. Just before menstruation females with ADHD start to get much much worse. Pregnancy and menopause also make things much worse.
