Question for police officers about Lo Jack.?
A few years back my mothers car was stolen and she did not have any form of GPS or something like that to locate the car. I have heard of this system called Lo jack and i wonder if i could install one in my new car? God forbid my car is ever stolen..i would love to be able to find it. thanks
another question. Do most police depts have a device in at least some of thier cars that track down the stolen car with help of the lo jack?

The nice thing about Lojack compared to OnStar is that the thief does not know you have LoJack, so they cannot disable it like they can with OnStar, and you do not pay monthly. With On Star if you do not pay your bill they turn it off.
The nice thing about OnStar is that you have other benefits like lockout service and if your car gets stolen you can call them and they start localization immediately (if it has not been disabled).
With Lojack it is not activated until you call the police and make a report. As soon as your VIN goes into NCIC (the officer taking the report calls it in) the LoJack is activated.
It has a very good success rate.
add: yes police departments have the equipment. It is paid for by LoJack, so you know the departments install them snce it is free and adds to their clearups. When a vehicle is within a certain distance of a equipped police car and alarm goes off and the system shows officers what direction to go in and how strong the signal is.

Lo Jack is a great investment for your brand new vehicle.
Almost every car in my division has it and we get hits every now and then... we find the car, verify wether it's a stolen, recovered and not on the system.... we usually have no problem finding the car.
But..... as the system gets better, thieves are getting wiser. They are now able to locate the Lo Jack in the car, take it out and disable it.
There have been a couple of times where I got a hit on Lo Jack and it came from a trash can so... it's up to you if you want to spend the money. But I recommend it 100%.

LoJack has been around for some time and they are pretty successful at locating stolen vehicles. If you have a GM car, the OnStar system will do the same. LoJack can be installed on any vehicle. Here is their web site.

Yes the only problems are if you live in a area where the police do not follow the beckon like a small town you will have the subscribe to a firm that will do it and then contact the police if they locate it. That would be like having a private cop find your car for you.

As you can tell, the officers here love Lo-Jack. I will add one thing though....
We have Lo-Jack installed our patrol vehicles, our department likes them that much.
