I would think very few would actually be able to do it without making the women feel jealousy.

We have lots of examples in the FLDS.

The men tend to pick one wife that they get along best with and favor her. She gains power over the lives of the other women. Jealousy ensues.

The man is so busy working to feed all the wives and children that he doesn't have the time to treat them decently, much less equally.

The stories that come out of these unions are sad and horrifying. It just isn't consistent with life in a free democratic country.
