Center of the galaxy?

I've seen pictures of many galaxy's, but always wondered why is the middle of almost every galaxy the brightest? Does the largest star sits there? or is it caused by lights from a billion stars. And is there a presence of a black hole in the middle of our galaxy?

It appears brightest as that is where there is the greatest concentration of stars per unit volume.

Current theory suggests that there is indeed a supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy.

Yes, there is supposed to be a black home in the middle of the galaxy. Towards the middle of the galaxies are so bright because that is where the biggest concentrations of stars are. Once I was watching some show on the Science Channel about our galaxy and they compared the middle to a big "city" of stars.

Most galaxies have a super massive black hole at their galactic core.

The brightness comes from the dense region of stars.
