What is the percentage of college graduates in the U.S.?

By "college," I mean simply with a Bachelor's degree... I don't mean with a Master's or anything else.

I last heard it was in the 30's... but that was quite a few years ago. Then a college professor of mine told me it was in the 20's. I'm just trying to find data to see a solid estimate. I tried Googling it, but a million different sites came up, and I don't have the time to search through them all. Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

Update:

Yes, I mean the percent of the population holding an earned bachelors degree.

I thought that was clear... I apologize.

As of 2004, 28% of the population has a degree of a Bachelor's or higher. I couldn't find anything more recent from a reliable source.

    EDIT

The census data for 2005 put it at 27.2%, so about the same.

depends on how you measure the %... if you mean 'average graduation rate in 4 years, it is one figure. If in 5 or 6 years (6 years is the official federal stat), then it is something else. If you mean the % f the population holding an earned bachelors degree, then it is another figure.
