Africa.
A great many countries of Central and Western Africa were former French colonies. After independence they kept French as at least one of their national languages.

Northstar's list omits the Mahgreb countries where French is no longer official but very widely used in the media and education. I understand that one third of the population of Morocco speaks French, and clear majorities in Algeria and Tunisia. They are among the most important francophone countries in the world.
