Huck Finn had a spider fall into a candle flame at the start of "Huckleberry Finn." He tied a hair into a knot and kept it under his pillow overnight to keep the witches away. Also, there were many instances in "Tom Sawyer" where the superstitions of the day were mentioned by actions and sayings, like when Tom, Becky Thatcher and Huck Finn were in the Cave and trying to keep Injun Joe away from them.
