Are Libertarians just failed Republicans sans the "Family Values"?

I am still trying to figure out how a Libertarian differs from a Republican. To me it seems like Senators John Ensign, David Vitter. Larry Craig and Gov Mark Sanford all fit the Libertarian profile of Republicans who cannot live up to the morals that some Conservatives like to think they have. What is your definition?

They say it is "individual freedom" that they stand for, to me that just means every man for himself, sort of like the way I think of Repiblicans so what makes them so different?

Libertarians are what the wealthy elite will all become when the U.S. is no longer the leading imperialist power and is forced to yield to the demands of a foreign power. At that point, "individualism" will be the mantra of all U.S. wealth elites.

    The Freedom to Starve

Why the Left Should Reject Ron Paul

    By SHERRY WOLF

    Excerpt:

Paul wants to abolish the Department of Education and, in his words, "end the federal education monopoly" by eliminating all taxes that go toward public education and "giving educational control back to parents." Which parents would those be? Only those with the leisure time, educational training, and temperament commensurate with home schooling! Whatever real problems the U.S. education system suffers from-and there are many-eliminating 99 percent literacy rates that generations of public education has achieved and tossing the children of working parents out of the schools is not an appealing or viable option.

Paul also opposes equal pay for equal work, a minimum wage, and, naturally, trade unions. In 2007, he voted against restricting employers' rights to interfere in union drives and against raising the federal minimum wage to $7.25. In 2001, he voted for zero-funding for OSHA's Ergonomics Rules, instead of the $4.5 billion. At least he's consistent.

Libertarians like Paul are for removing any legislative barriers that may restrict business owners' profits, but are openly hostile to alleviating economic restrictions that oppress most workers. Only a boss could embrace this perverse concept of "freedom."

To advocate for society to be organized on the basis of strict individualism, as libertarians do, is to argue that everyone has the right to do whatever he or she wants. Sounds nice in the abstract, perhaps. But what happens when the desires of one individual infringe on the desires of another? Libertarians like Paul don't shy away from the logical ramifications of their argument. "The dictatorial power of a majority" he argues ought to be replaced by the unencumbered power of individuals-in other words, the dictatorial power of a minority.

So if the chairman of Dow Chemical wants to flush his company's toxic effluence into rivers and streams, so be it. If General Motors wants to pay its employees starvation wages, that's their right too. Right-wing libertarians often appear to not want to grapple with meddlesome things like economic and social power. As the bourgeois radical Abraham Lincoln observed of secessionist slaveowners, "The perfect liberty they seek is the liberty of making slaves of other people."

A true Libertarian feels that the federal government should only Defend the Borders, Deliver the Mail, Make treaties with other nations, and most importantly, leave the people ALONE. A Republican will find that some government intervention, as a stabilizing force,(say into the economy) is necessary. The "Family Values" thing differs greatly among individual Republicans (and Democrats as well, there ARE pro-life Democrats out there, you just don't hear about them).

I'm a libertarian, and since I have the brains to realize a libertarian has no hope of winning the election, I'm voting for Romney, who is a monumental improvement over Obama. You're just a lying piece of sh!t trying to convince real libertarians to throw away their votes.

Senators John Ensign, David Vitter. Larry Craig and Gov Mark Sanford are all social conservatives like Sarah Palin.

Libertarians are liberal on social issues because they believe in true limited government.

they aren't hypocrites like republicans who claim to be for limited government but when it comes to abortion and gay Right they want the government involved.

No. Nice lie. V for Vendetta your copy and paste job is a lie too. Libertarians would not allow a company to dump pollution into a stream. That would effect another persons property and violate their rights. You guys don't know **** about libertarians.

They are like bisexuals between gays and straights. Pick a team.

Libertarians get to distance themselves from both the left and the right, dems and republicans, conservatives and liberabls, by claiming some middle ground. Pick a team.

Dr. Ron Paul did seem as though he had a solid platform, and if ever got the opportunity to be the president and put those plans into action the nwo would fail miserably.

And a communist is just a democrat who has quit lying to himself.

Try this. Your liberty ends where mine begins. As long as your actions are not infringing on the freedoms of others, its nobody's business. I really don't care who has sex with whom. And by the way, what is wrong with every man for himself? When everyone is looking out for themselves, you don't have to wonder if anyone is looking out for you; you are doing it yourself. Capitalism works as an economic system because commerce depends on mutual self interest. I want what's best for me. I'm not going to get that by cheating you. I'd get a bad reputation and lose business. Therefore, I want to keep my customers happy so they keep coming back and paying me.

Remember this Firehead because it is a fact of YOUR party:

"While it is true that a lot of liberals are not socialists and communists, ALL socialists and communists ARE liberals."

See what falls under the "all inclusive" tent of the Democrats??
