Help- repainting a crib?

We just purchased a second hand crib, its relatively new but it does have some minor scratches. My hubby and I are wanting to repaint it (its already white) and refinish the changing table to match it. Any DIY website, tips on how to do this safely??

You need an eco-paint that's free of chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Find a company which lists all the ingredients of their products on the tins - you want something that's oil-free and acrylic-free that won't release harmful emissions during painting or afterwards. Brands like Earthborn, Farrow and Ball or Safecoat I've used on my daughter's nursery furniture in the past.

Most specialist DIY stores should carry a small range of eco-paints, although if you're looking for particular colors and finishes it might be easier to order from specialist ecological companies online.

To get the best finish you usually need to lightly sand and prime the wood first - obviously this is dusty and something which needs to be done outside to prevent respiratory distress.
