Bob Green - St. Peter Street Strutters?

Let me give it a listen on Amazon and I'll leave a note. While a teen, I worked in an ice cream parlor on St. Peter Street, right across from Preservation Hall. My father was big on all forms of jazz and we used to go there quite a bit after my shift.

Ok, after listening to the samples, I enjoy this CD very much overall. Greene understands the rhythmic role of piano in New Orleans jazz group settings and mostly fills the niche as required. (Two exceptions: punch the skip button on "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" due to Greene using trills instead of rhythm and "Tiger Rag" begins with an utterly weak piano intro that strikes me as fearful rather than low-key.) Cornetist Ernie Carson lets out big fat notes and dominates the songs, which makes me happy.

This isn't what we derisively call "tourist music" from Bourbon Street. This is good New Orleans jazz. The CD definitely swings thanks to Carson and tuba player Hal Johnson.
