How thin is the ice Matthew Elliott is on?
Since the departure of John Lang has coach Penrith has struggled to even look like premiership threat. With the worlds best juniors and some absolutely freakish talent already in the first grade side, Penrith should be contenders for the premiership.
I realise there is a discipline problem as well as a halves problem though by round 26 they looked no more in sync then in round1, the team did not look like it was properly coached.
Is he the man for the job? Who is the man for the job? Which other NRL coaches are on thin ice?

to be honest, very very THICK, elliot is a very good coach, he is professional, experienced and cool calm and collected, i think he has picked a good and the correct team all year, its just his team doesnt want to aim up, eg, pritchard, 3 good games allyear, sure he's had injuries, but hes not having a dig, hes sooo lazy, jennings, the same, never calls for the ball, just wants it near the line, nathan smith, star last year, pathetic this year, the only ones i would say are having a go, even if theyre not the best are aiton, cooper, waterhouse, petero and frank puletua, the rest of the team needs to wake up b4 next year or they will be in all sorts

Freakish talent is wasted unless it is matched with commitment and persistence. I reckon a shovel would be better than Frank the Tank at the moment. At least a shovel will have a dig.
Beyond the heartless effort of some players, Penrith need to settle on a spine and stick with it. I reckon Walsh and Lewis in the halves and Lachlan Coote at fullback. The also need to recruit a decent hooker after showing Paul Aiton the door. Anthony Watts should be on their hit list, although they could make a play for Terence Seu Seu given he's off contract at the Sharks and the Bulldogs have snapped up Dene Halatau to deputise for Michael Ennis.
I reckon Elliot is the man for the job. Other coaches on thin ice would be Ivan Cleary and Jason Taylor. It's tough when your players aren't putting in, but if a new coach comes in and shows he's prepared to kick heads, then players can respond a lot better.

Maybe if the clubs most expensive player actually played more than 20 minutes they might get somewhere. Pritchard is the teams main man- he is a destructive runner, has good speed & a sense of leadership, but he is so lazy!! Its like Thurston or Hayne sitting on the sidelines and coming on once or twice through the game to play the odd few minutes. They need some experience in the halves & a stable fullback. I dont think Elliot is the problem, they just need a fresh breath in the team & work harder.

I just think he isn't the right man for the job. He did good by bringing in young guns, seeing as they have one of the best junior systems in the league, but he is used to having players that have developed already.

Elliot isn't the problem. Some of the players simply don't have a dig each and every game.

I think they will give him half a season. If no improvement by then they will be on the lookout for a replacement.
