If you were to tell a parent about the benefits of...?

I would like to compare your list with mine! Benefits of fingerpainting and open-ended questions and statements that you would make while a child is in the process of fingerpainting. Thanks!

Finger painting encourages creativity, self expression, stimulates the senses, as well as strengthens fine motor skills.

I typically use questions like "Tell me about your painting." "What did you choose to paint today?" "Why did you choose to use (insert color)?"

I also like to let students use things other than their fingers. For example we used the jumbo marshmallows when we were talking about the letter M, q-tips work well to further fine motor skills, this week we blow through straws because we were talking about the letter S. I have also had them bring a small object from home and make prints with them. There are literally thousands of things you can paint with...Get creative :)
