No matter what dog you get, you have to train it to be a "good house dog". I also hear that little dogs are harder to train, like chihuahua types (they bark at EVERYTHING). Depending on your living conditions, you'd have to look up breeds & see which is best for you.

Excellent with the Dachshund! I have two, have had four at one time and feature fostered for a Dachshund Rescue. I have a few mutts, a enormous historical Chocolate Labrador and an American Pit Bull Terrier. What recommendation I might supply any person in view that the bully breed is beautiful realistic: a million) Do your homework. Research the breed. Thoroughly. two) If you're a sofa potato, put out of your mind it. three) You ought to have a dominant, assertive nature, or else this breed will stroll far and wide you four) Know this breed has a nasty popularity because of lack of information and be ready to come across men and women who will hate you and your puppy. five) Get equipped for severe coaching. Exercising is a MUST. You can not over pastime an APBT. 6) Reinforce your coaching EVERY day. 7) Socialize your puppy from the establishing. People, youngsters, different puppies and animals. eight) Teach your puppy NO TEETH ON HUMAN FLESH instantly. They are enormous mouthers and their 'nibbling/biting' hurts like hell. Teach them by no means to contact flesh with their mouths. nine) Ignore media hype and make your puppy a well illustration of what this breed is relatively all approximately.

Most small dogs aren't very good with kids because kids tend to be a little rough with smaller dogs and it scares the dog making them nip or bite.
A good breed is a poodle, they come in toy, miniature and standard. I would recommend a miniature poodle for you because they are about 18lbs at their biggest and are a bit "sturdier" with younger kids.
Poodles are very smart dogs, easy to train, very loyal and just GREAT dogs. I have a miniature poodle mix and he's just awesome.
ALL dogs bark when they go untrained and bored. It's your job to teach them barking is not allowed. NO dog automatically just knows not to bark.
Another option for you would be to visit a shelter along with your kids.
Staff can help you find a dog that's perfect for you. Most of the staff know the dogs very well.
Good luck!!

I have a cocker spaniel and he is a great dog. He was very easy to train, doesn't bark much, just doesn't like strangers much. I have two kids and he gets along great with them. He does weigh about 25 lbs, but the smaller dogs like chiuauas seem to be nervous and bark alot.

I would recommend a Mini schnauzer. I had one when i was growing up and he was my best friend... these dogs will put up with anything (i put mine in baby-doll clothes, put him in a baby stroller, and taught him to drink out of a bottle). He was super smart and would do anything for a treat.... I also grew up with other family members having schnauzers and they were just as sweet.
They are also reasonable affordable for a small dog. In texas they are normally 250-400.
