How do you treat a fish with swim bladder?

When i went to feed my fancy goldfish this morning i saw that one of them was floating on its side at the top of the tank but was still breathing and moving its fins.

Im pretty sure it has swim bladder problem but i dont know how to treat it as from what ive read on the net you have to give them peas but i dont know how to do this as the fish is floating at the top of the tank and the peas would sink to the bottom!

What can i do?? is the fish going to die? :'(

thanks

Buy a package of frozen peas, or search in your freezer for the bag you bought two years ago. They are rock hard by now, so defrost them.

Take one or two peas and make sure they are nice and defrosted. Take the skin off.

Put the pea(s) in the goldfish's tank.

Keep trying. If the fish doesn't eat the pea immediately, remove it and try again later. The fish will eat the pea eventually, as all goldfish are perpetually hungry, and require a certain amount of greens in their diet for optimum nutrition. Until the fish eats the pea, withhold all other foods.

Alternatively, try feeding live, frozen, or freeze-dried daphnia to the goldfish.

The fish should be swimming upright in no time.

Tips Many goldfish diseases and illnesses are exacerbated by poor water conditions. always test your ammonia and nitrite and do not over feed

A fresh, clean environment is conducive to happy healthy fish.

Only one or two peas are needed.

If you are feeding out flakes or pellets on a regular basis, soak them for 5-15 minutes in a cup of tank water. Often there are numerous air pockets created in the food during production. This excess air can become trapped in the digestive system.

Peas work great but they may need cooked a bit not to mush but enough to soften them so the fish can get them down.

I have found it is usually a Bacterial Infection, Water quality, or overfeeding that may cause this problem. Apart from the propriety treatments readily available I have found a simple way of trying to correct the imbalance in it's Swim Bladder. Place the fish in a shallow dish of tank water just enough to cover the back of the fish and float the fish and the dish back in the tank. Leave for a few hours and see if there has been any improvement. If not, then apply the treatment and improve your Water quality.

the only ingredient you're able to do to handle that's to not feed your fish for 40 8 hours. Then feed it chew sized products of a skinned pea, the two thawed frozen or cooked clean. maximum situations of swim bladder ailment are led to via constipation and adverse water situations. If that is attainable, decrease the water point so they don't ought to swim up so a concepts on a thank you to get air. save there water as clean as attainable and something is as much as success and nature.

80% of swim bladder problems (not actual swim bladder disease) are caused by over feeding. especially in fancy goldfish as their body shape 'squishes' their insides and causes blockages, so in this case, it sounds like your fish has......... Constipation!. peas do help on occasion, because they act as a laxitive. you are supposed to cook them and remove the shell then squish it and put little bits in, to stop the others from being greedy and taking it all you could seperate them, putting your ill fish into a different tank.

some fish do die from swim bladder problems, but i knew somebody who's fish lived its whole life upsidedown (no critisisms here, i was 5 when i knew her, and she CERTAINLY wasnt my friend). you could try giving it peas then dont feed it for three days, also, to avoid this problem again buy sinking pellets, because when goldfish eat flaked foods they gulp down air aswell as the food and get bloated, affecting their swim bladder

it is important that you stop feeding them for about 2-4 days because this is how fish usually get swim bladder. then you need to go to your aquatist store and buy some swim bladder liquid treatment as well.

doing this will not harm the other fish at all and ensure that your fish will have the best chances of survival!(but no guarantee) swim bladder is the easiest of fish ailments to cure if treated properly!

hope he gets better soon - good luck!!

You need to get to a local aquarium shop and buy a swim bladder Liquid to put in the water. They will advise on which is best. We have treated our fish for this and it survived, but it depends on how long he has had it. Good luck
