Taking out bathtub and installing shower only?
I am thinking about taking out the bathtub and installing a shower only. It is the only bathroom in the house. It is a smaller house, but in a college town where it would be possible to rent out to college kids down the road. I am 26 and haven't taken or had the urge to use a bathtub in the past 10 years. I'm currently single, don't plan on living in this house forever, just something I bought to live in, and hopefully once I meet Mrs. Right, we can get a house we want. I know it would possibly hurt retail some, but with all that information thrown out there, would it hurt to do something like this. I know that it might throw potential buyers out if they have a small child or baby, but most younger kids are probably using a shower nowadays anyway. Anyway, just getting a feeler to what some people think.

You will be in this house for a while, so I would redo the bath as you like, not worry about resale. If you choose to sell in a couple of years or more down the road, then aim the sale to college students, or keep for an investment and rent out later on.

You should keep the tub since it's the only bathroom in the house. Many people won't buy this house in the future if there's no tub - impossible for a family to bathe little kids without a tub, impossible to bathe pets at home without a tub.
Our master bath has only a shower but the guest bath has a tub with shower.
Over 6 years ago I tried out the jetted tub in the guest bath, and I haven't had a bath since. Before that I can't remember the last time I took a bath! However, I have a number of girl friends who love a long leisurely soak and to do this you need - a tub.

I'd never buy a house with no bathtub, unless the price was low enough to allow me to install one right away. I shower most of the time, but there are times a bathtub comes in very handy and there isn't much you can substitute for one.

If your going to rent it to college kids, you should be just fine with a shower, but if you want to rent to a small family, I would replace with a new 1-piece bathtub (easier to maintain). They cost about the same, so in the end it is your decision. Who do you want to rent to?
