The iris is the membrane whose shape is changed by sphincter and dilator muscles to control the amount of light entering the eye. The pupil is just the name for the opening in the iris.

Your pupil is just a hole in the middle of your iris. So your irises shrink, which causes the pupils to expand. In fact, this is the function of the iris: to change the size of the pupil.

Your irises shrink. See, your irises, if you look really close in the mirror, have little folds in them. If these folds become tighter, your pupil enlarges. If the folds are looser, your pupil shrinks.

Your pupils dilate and cover up the iris. The iris doen't dilate or constrict.
