Help with GarageBand. How do i hook up my guitar to my mac?

Ok. I have a new macbook pro and I wanted to know what I need to plug my guitar to my computer and start using Garageband. I've been reading many posts about a 1/4" to 1/8" cable converter and I wanted to try that since buying usb interfaces looks expensive but the problem is that the new macbooks don't have a jack for the mic. it only has a headphone jack. help please.

If you have no audio inputs, you'll need to add one. Here's a basic USB guitar adapter:

There are many others, but this one's inexpensive (abuot $40) and includes an additional headphone output designed to be used when recording.

    Have fun!

For I/O you may get any lower priced audio interface that has 1 / 4 inch jack. Apple could probable propose the Apogee ONE yet you additionally can get a MBox or extra fee-effective audio interface including an M-Audio FastTrack in basic terms to get began. those will take your guitar sign and convert it to a USB sign. From there it incredibly is basically a count of installation garageband together with your new interface.

You should have a mic jack. Plug the guitar mic into the mic jack on the Mac.
