Why has my period lasted so long, i'm on birth control and its always been regular!?

I've been on mononessa for a few years now and i originally went on birth control because i had irregular periods and thats what my doctor prescribed and i've never had a problem until now...My period has lasted 2 weeks and I made an appointment with my gynecologist but it's not until 2 days from now (she was booked crazy for like a week)

What could be causing this?

Also there's no chance i had a miscarriage because for that you would need to have had sex.

Also don't answer "go to your doctor" because i'm going i just want an explanation because I can't go for a few days.

I went on the pill for painful periods, but after being on the pill for 4 years, I had started to resist it and my cramps were coming back. My gynecologist just changed my pill to one with a higher dose of hormones. It could be something like that. Your doctor of course will know best. That's the only thing I can think of.

I know this is probably not that helpful but I was on birth control from age 15-20, I got on BC because I had trouble with acne and it helped. When I was 20 I got off because I got into fitness and working out. This sounds crazy but I lost 10lbs of water weight immediately. Well I tried to get back on this Feb. I started having month long periods and was fatigued, I believed because of anemia (low iron). Also after that ended I started having hot flashes and other stuff. I am 25 and I have gotten off completely and I feel so much better. If you chose to be on BC, I would try another brand. Good Luck.
