It is a toss up between Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles and Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan. Sgt. Pepper because it takes the genius that was Revolver, but to a whole new level. It incorporates music influences from Rock to Indian to music hall. The lyrics take the simplicity of childhood but transform the theme into conceptual music. The actual cover art is legend and has been duplicated multiple times.

Highway 61 Revisited is great because it was such a departure for Dyaln at the time. His usual folk style was transformed into full rock band mode. It also is loud and gruff, where we had seen Bob being more of a mellow spirit. And it of course contains the song "Like A Rolling Stone", one of the best songs to ever be written and recorded.

It depends on the genre. For hip-hop I would say something like Illmatic. It's short and to the point (only 10 songs with a run-time of less than 40 minutes). Each song is incredible from both a production standpoint; with legendary producers DJ Premeir, Large Professor, Q-Tip, Pete Rockl, and etc, and from a lyrically perspective; multi-syllable rhymes schemes, internal rhymes, and etc. Finally the order of the songs are perfect with a fitting opening "New York"-- vividly painting a picture of NaS' early environment, to the last song "It Ain't Hard to Tell"--which excemplifies NaS' lyrically capabilities.

Other great albums would have to be: Reasonable Doubt: Jay-Z, Ready to Die: Biggie, Let's Get It On: Marvin Gaye, Thriller: Michael Jackson, Dirty Mind: Prince, Back in Black: AC/DC; Me Against The World: 2Pac, It Takes A Nation of Million...Public Enemey, and so on.

Source(s): Inspiring producer who learned a lot from doing some "crate digging".
