Finger-taming is the first stage to successful handling, and it should first be tried out in the cage. The index finger should be offered through the cage door as a perch. All movements should be slow but deliberate, and the hand must be kept below the level of the birds head. Many birds will instinctively hop on to the finger, especially if encouaged with softly spoken words.
An alternative is to hold a piece of wood as a perch, which some birds accept more readily. If this is successful , you can try with the finger later.

Be very slow- i have tamed 2 aviary birds so far with complete success.
1. No fast movements, sit in front of their cage for 20 mins just talking to them in a soft voice, first thing is to built up the trust before you try to touch them
2. if they are not tame at all you need to get them to understand that you coming over to the cage is a good thing- so about 3 times a day when you walk past drop a treat into their food so they associate you with a treat
3. soon you will be able to open the cage door and have the treat on your hand and see if they come over- its a slow process but it works
Its all about baby steps to build trust because after all- why should a tiny bird trust and enormous stranger
