Dynasties eat taxes. People eat food. The people of China have survived so many famines that they consider almost everything food, including dogs, cats, rats, and the saliva birds use to make nests. Most people ate rice, and as much as they could get. They also ate a lot of fish and shellfish, raised pigs and chickens, grew wheat and millet, and so on, but not milk or cheese. The government officials organized game drives which enabled the local governor or Emperor to slaughter huge amounts of deer, pheasants, bears and so on for rich meat.
