Asking all Mazda Miata Guru's?

Hello, I have a 1990 Mazda Miata and I'm considering replacing the covertable top. I'm from Toronto Canada and looking for any recommendations, eg. having if fixed by an appolster, replacing the unit (how and where can I find one), ect.

Many thanks

I have bought my new tops off of e-bay. They are three window models (like the Triumph cars had). I do not know if they are still there.

I had one installed once. It takes about a days labor. I have installed two now (one on each of my 90 models). It took me about six hours.

I found both rain rails damaged, and wish that I had bought new ones. Also the cable ends are a bit fragle, so a new set of them is in order too.

Directions come with the tops, you can find directions in the Factory manual also. Of course there are other sources for this info, like Miata.net. None of them are the same, and are useful as guidelines. I say this because the rain rail does not have to be rivited to the top (something that will help it last through another top) and you do not know who or how the last one was installed. To give you an example: on one Miata someone had rivited the rain rail in from the wrong side. The manual tells you to remove the bows, but the tops can be installed with out unbolting them. You would need a 10 mm wrench (socket), pop rivit gun, channel lock pliers and a drill motor. Unless you run into complications.

What I am pointing out is that a professional yeilds prefessional results, how ever it is something that can be done in a few hours by most poeple who are of average mechanical ability. Work clean and neat!

Most auto interior shops can do the work by the way.

Check out miatamania.com they are part of Moss Motors who have been in business for years, there are other on line vendors like Flying Miata to name another.

    Enjoy.

My honest answer is that anytime I see a middle aged man driving a Mazda Miata, I think MID LIFE CRISIS!!! So, in this case, it would be an anti-girl car for me.
